Hommage to Peli Romarategi

In 2010 I met Peli Romarategi. He was 88 at the time. Peli was the man behind dozens of enormous mosaic murals, throughout Ecuador and also here in the Basque Country. He constructed the enormous mosaic murals behind the altar of the Santuario of Urkiola.
In celebration of his 100th birthday I was asked to create a mural the nieghborhood he was born in (the medieval quarter of Vitoria-Gasteiz).
I painted the mural on polytab in my studio and intstalled it permanently on the wall in 2022. Peli came to the inauguration as well as other city dignitaries including the Bishop and the Mayor of the City.
Technique: Acrylic paint on polytab cloth, adhered to facade.
