Zuñiga

Zuñiga (Navarra) //2012, 2017

Mural “The Way” (2012):

The Way (La vía), is a colorful mural that provides color and movement to the town of Zuñiga. It unites the fondness the town has always had for bike riding with the sense of community and working together that characterizes the town in present day.

The mural speaks of the passage of time. This is signified in the mural by the transformation of the rail lines into bike trails.  These abandoned rail lines have transformed hundreds of kilometers of unused trails into a wonderful bike route known as the the “Green Way”, that connects the town of Estella with the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz. An old photograph of a woman riding a bicycle taken in Zuñiga more than 50 years ago was reproduced in the mural.

Thanks to the input, debates and participation of the townspeople of Zuñiga and the admirable cultural association “Arkijas”, this mural was the 2012 winner of the the XIV Prize of Town Beautification awarded by the Touristic Consortium of Estella.
